New quishing alert: £3.5 million lost last year to fraudulent QR codes

Action Fraud is urging people to look out for rogue QR codes, after 784 reports of ‘quishing’ were made to Action Fraud between April 2024 and April 2025, with almost £3.5 million lost.

A new alert has been issued by Action Fraud, warning about quishing, a form of phishing where a fraudulent QR code is scanned, designed to steal personal and financial information. The warning encourages people to stay vigilant and double check QR codes to see if they are malicious, or have been tampered with, before scanning them online or in public spaces. What you can do to avoid being a victim of quishing-

• QR codes used in pubs or restaurants are usually safe to scan.
• Scanning QR codes in open spaces (like stations and car parks) might pose a greater risk. Check for signs that codes may have been tampered with (usually by a sticker placed over the legitimate QR code). If in doubt, do not scan them: use a search engine to find the official website or app for the organisation you need to make a payment to.
• If you receive an email with a QR code in it, and you’re asked to scan it, you should be cautious due to an increase in these types of ‘quishing’ attacks.
• Finally, we recommend that you use the QR-scanner that comes with your phone, rather than using an app downloaded from an app store.

PUBLIC NOTICE  ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14 (AS AMENDED) WORCESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

NOTICE OF THE CLOSURE OF FORD LANE, DROITWICH, WORCESTERSHIRE (“THE HIGHWAY”)

Reason for restriction: Burst water main.  There is a likelihood of danger to the public or of serious damage to the road.  There is a need to close the highway in the following terms:-

1. The effect of this Notice is that no vehicle shall proceed along that part of the highway from its junction with A38 Rashwood Hill to its junction with C2082 Crutch Lane.
2. This provision shall continue in force for a maximum of 21 days, however, it is anticipated that it will remain in force for 4 days (24hrs) commencing 13 June 2025.
3. Alternative routes: – U42009 Ford Lane (part), C2082 Crutch Lane, C2082 Dodderhill Road, B4065 Bromsgrove Road, A38 Rashwood Hill and vice versa.

Nothing in this Notice shall prevent at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the highway, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from and only from the highway.

Order made: to close that part of U42006 Astwood Ln from its junction with U42008 Horsepool Ln to its junction with U42007 Sharpway Gate
Reason: Utility works by Openreach
Exemptions: to permit access to any land or premises fronting the highway affected where there is no other form of access; and to allow the works to be undertaken.
Alternative route: U42006 Astwood Ln (part), C2004 Shaw Ln, C2033 Westonhall Rd, B4091 Hanbury Rd, U42006 Astwood Ln (part) and vice versa.
Maximum duration: 18 Months. Anticipated duration: 1 day Commencing: 17 June 2025

• Chloe Allen-Hewitt and Ernie Edwards, Planning Policy Officers from Malvern Hills & Wychavon District Councils who explained how Dodderhill Parish Council can work with residents to create a Neighbourhood Development Plan
• Alastair Moseley who spoke about the Wychbold Radio Masts and showed some fascinating photos of the masts and the associated buildings, past and present. This provoked a lot of discussion and memories. Look out for a petition soon to have the masts listed and possibly a meeting to record oral histories
• Cooksey Quality Meats who provided tasty and good-value nibbles
• Everyone who took part in the Strategic Plan activity, to help inform the parish council’s focus over the next few years. The results of the activity will be available on the parish council’s website soon – https://dodderhill-pc.gov.uk
• Everyone who signed the Annual Parish Meeting Record book. A copy of this book is kept with the parish council Clerk and available on request to look at
• Carry Smart, the Wychbold Park Improvement Plan Coordinator, for providing information about Wychbold Park improvements including the plans for the orchard, playing fields, paths, hedges and the new community sensory garden. A new notice board is on order that will soon be available for park updates.
• Gill Lungley, the parish council Clerk, for helping organise the meeting and taking notes and writing up the minutes for approval at next year’s Annual Parish Meeting
• Everyone who contributed to the meeting in any way, including helping set up at the start, stacking chairs at the end and asking questions during the talks and during the open forum. Any questions you feel may be still unanswered, please email: Gill, the parish council Clerk,
